I recently purchased an Intex sand filter for my AGP to supersede the stock paper cartridge filter (I hoping this greatly improves the quality of my water). My question for the forum is, how practice I use the sand filter to vacuum my pool? I don't take a skimmer fastened to my puddle, merely I did update the pool liner a couple years agone to use the larger Intex ports.

Thanks

Your vac hose will adhere to your inlet on the pool wall.

The inlet to the filter not the return.

JEC11718, Thanks for the response. Just so I'm clear, I will need to close the valve on the exterior of the pool wall, and so disconnect the inlet hose, then connect my vacuum hose?

No, there's an adapter that screws over the inlet on the inside of the puddle and you lot attach the vacuum to that. You don't have to take annihilation loose.

Hiya Panther - welcome to TFP!

Simply FYI, the vast amount of water quality complaints we see are due to issues with the chemic residue. That'south not to say that filtering problems don't exist, but unless you're already using a quality FAS-DPD test kit (TF-100 or Taylor K2006), that's something that should definitely be discussed.

Cheers Jeff. Ane question...the description wasn't real clear on the size of the adapter. Does this adapter fit the larger Intex intake inlet?

Our pool came with this adapter... if a hose doesn't fit we used a hose adapter. Which is at every puddle store and not specific for whatever puddle. If you take one of the newer pools that have double inlet similar we exercise (two holes to get to the filter) y'all'll get better suction past doing a few tweaks. Intex pools come with these black plugs to shut up the inlets for whatsoever reason. Put ane of those over ane of the inlets so apply the other hole for vacuuming. In order to fill up the vacuum hose with water so the pump won't go as well much air put in front of the jet until you see the bubbling stop at the other end of the hose then connect it to the inlet to vacuum!!

Expert luck! !

Thanks Jeff. One question...the clarification wasn't real clear on the size of the adapter. Does this adapter fit the larger Intex intake inlet?
It fit the intake on my Intex before I switched to a Hayward through the wall skimmer, only that was the old Intex pool with a unmarried intake. If you take the new style with dual intakes, I take no idea if it will fit or not. Sorry...

Jeff, was that the smaller intake for the smaller filter, or the larger intake. BTW, I have the single intake, but I upgraded my holes to use the larger Intex hoses without the neck-down adapters.

Jeff, I but received the hose adapter. What process should I follow to properly connect my vacuum? Practise I need to modify the intake screen to let for debris to flow in?

Turn the pump off, spiral on the adapter, then connect the vacuum hose, turn the pump back on and get to piece of work.

I wouldn't alter the screen, but if y'all vacuum upwardly leaves or other large debris, you may need to remove the adapter and articulate the screen periodically.

That was the problem I had when using the intex fitting to vacuum, the screen on the fitting would clog up quickly, and when removing the adapter some of the debris would terminate upward dorsum in the pool. Have a skimmer cyberspace handy when you unscrew that adapter.

Jeff and dom, thanks for the info. I assume the pump will stay on "Filter" manner while running the vacuum.

Y'all tin can set information technology to "Waste" and avoid pumping the debris back into your filter if it'due south really nasty, but y'all'll demand to add water dorsum to the pool if you do it for very long.
